Exciting New Oil DVD Out Soon

We are very excited about our new DVD which should be released around March 4 entitled Oil Sketching On Location With Robert Brindley RSMA.

You may remember Robert's last film for us Atmospheric Watercolour Landscapes which has been  very popular. This time Robert, who is a member of the prestigeous Royal Society of Marine Artists, tackles oils painted on the spot and filmed in a beautiuful coastal location.
The amazing thing about Robert's technique is his colour palette - he paints with just three primary colours plus white. Yes four colours in all!!!! You will be amazed at the huge range of hues he can achieve and, as Robert says, using a limited palette maintains a colour harmony  throughout the painting. Here are some pictures from the shoot. I will post  a trailer later in the week. You can pre-order this DVD by calling our order line 01603 259441
 (or international) +44 1603 259441 or emailing us sales@townhousefilms.co.uk

You can find out more about Robert and his work on his excellent web site: http://www.robertbrindley.co.uk/

Rare Film Of The Great Edward Seago

One of our best selling films of 2010 was the one we made with Suffolk artist Miles Fairhurst demonstrating the oil painting techniques of Edward Seago (1910-1974). Seago who was born and lived in Norfolk has probably had a greater influence on popular English landscape painting  than any other artist of the past 50 years. Sadly he died in 1974 - long before painting DVDs or videos were really being made and I have never seen any film of him actually painting. But I have just came accross a lovely short film from Pathé News showing him in action in the early 1930's. A rare gem. You can view below. You have to sit through a brief commercial first but that's the price we pay for free acess to this wonderful archive.  To view just click on the image below which will open up a viewer in a new window on the Pathé site. There's a button in the bottom right of the new window to make the screen larger.
